3D Systems Corporation (NYSE:DDD) announced recently the acquisition of Vertex Global Holding, a dental materials company that supplies products under the Vertex and NextDent brands. 3D Systems groundbreaking 44 platform and NextDent’s advanced 3D printing materials will provide a strategic foothold in the fast growing billion dollar digital dentistry opportunity for the company.
Vertex Dental and NextDent are leading global innovators and manufacturers of photopolymer, thermoplastic, polymer and monomer materials for traditional and 3D printing dental applications. NextDent has developed 12 dental 3D printing materials to date and has obtained regulatory approval for use of these materials in more than 70 countries worldwide. So 3D Systems can grow globally with this brand.

NextDent’s portfolio of 3D printing materials allow dental professionals to produce trays, models, drilling templates, dentures, orthodontic splints, crowns and bridges with enhanced speed, precision and efficiency and lower cost compared to conventional procedures.
Rik Jacobs who was the former CEO of Vertex Dental and NextDent will lead 3D Systems worldwide dental business. Connie Peterse-van der Koppel the former Chief Development & Regulatory Officer of NextDent & Vertex Dental will lead dental development and regulatory efforts.

Another important point for the investors to take note is that the acquisition is expected to immediately accretive to non-GAAP EPS and also cash generation. The value of the deal was not announced.

3D Systems announced on January 19 that it plans to expand its Virtual Surgical Planning Service to include Cranial Applications. VPS Cranial is 510(k) cleared for use in the operating room and enables surgeon to create a virtual pre surgical plan that can be instrumented with sterilizable, patient specific 3D printed anatomical models, guides and templates.
